I went boggin' when I had my 95 F-150 2x4. One time I had 33x14.50's and another time I just had some decent all terrain 31x10.50's. Had an open 3:55 rear, and I never got stuck. Speed is definitely a key, but don't overdo it and always have a recovery rig handy, at least 2 other vehicles, so when the first recon rig gets stuck pulling the first stuck guy out you won't have to walk 30 miles in 105* weather with warm Mountain Dew. Ask me how I know.
The whole trick in 2X4 muddin' is to have a light truck, and big ol' wide tires...
The front of the truck has all the weight of the engine on it, and the drive end usually being the back - a few sand bags back there might help.
But the heavier it is, the deeper it will dig.
I suppose big enough and wide enough tires on a real light truck might work out, but without 4X4 it doesn't have the "CRAWL FACTOR" of a true four-by.
It sounds like a fun challenge!
Maybe one day 2X4 muddin' will become something we can do as a club thang...
(I kinda like the idea!)
Just imagine: The TWO WHEEL DRIVE MUD NATIONALS
- I'm sorta picturing a rear engined Ranger II at the back of my mind, with wide swampers...
Well,
I can tell you from experience that Ive been in mud up past my axles before in my 2wd and have managed to not get stuck. Although control was an issue I had to use the front tires more like rudders than anything else because the back end will wanna break loose and go off on its own my trucks a 73 and its a long bed to boot, actually if I want to be exact I better put in all of its stats, its a 73 F350 Ranger XLT Super Camper Special. Its got a 390 and a C-6.
Ive taken my friend s off roading in it and they all love it cuz they say its like riding in a cadillac. So I guess what Im saying is try it out but make sure you can get it out if ya get stuck.

Ok I guess it was snow.but speed is A factor like when my dad was a kid my Grandpa had a bus they drove aroud in couse there was 7 kids and they traveld alot but any way back to they story. They where driving in some god forbiden land i think it was Montana any way they came apon a mud hole and it didnt look very deep and there was no was aroun it so they tried it but they got stuck so there they where treing to get unstuck when all of soudden there is a honk and a stachon wagon loaded down with poeple come speading down the road right tru the mud hole with out geting stuck and then they kept driving and didnt stop to help
Th moral of they story is drive like %#@@ and you will get where you want to go
