I came out of work last night (I work in downtown Indianapolis and park in a garage) hopped in the truck and what's this? A bunch of wires where my Nav computer and MP3 player used to be.
No signs of forced entry, always lock the vehicle. Stoped by the dealership today to have lunch with the guys and they explained how the guy got in. Apparently if you pry back the door handle, you can easily lift the lock lever opening the door.
Whoever did this was a pro. I appreciate his/her work although the took my goodies. They barely distorted the metal and left only a couple of minor scratches.
Well I fixed it tonight, I removed the lever from the lock cylinder to the lock (while doing a minor touch up on the metalwork and paint). It won't happen again. Now then, if the power locks ever fail on all five doors, you'll see me crawling in through door number five.
I gotta hand it to the thief, little damage and even relocked the doors when he/she was done. The poor fool will be in for a surprise if he tries again.
You should all consider this if you are concerned about the contents of you beloved vehicle. It's a quick fix and certianly eliminates the possibility of a 30 second theft of the vehicle's contents.
That's a bummer Herman. Did they ruin the wiring harness?
Somebody stole my secretary's two headrest monitors the other day...during the middle of the day out of a very busy parking garage with a full-time patrol officer. Some of these guys/gals have some serious huevos.
Nope, cables unplugged. The hoot about it was that it was a 40GB MP3 with about 36GB consumed. My backup took a hiatus a couple months back so I will take a long time to get it all put back.
It was funny, I had heard about thefts and whatnot from the downtown garages before I started working there. See, I really am just a country bumpkin and REALLY don't belong in the big city (I know, I know, Indy is NOT a big city but it is to me). It was bound to happen.
You can't hunt theives out of season can you? Although I'm not sure how good my climbing tree stand would work on the side of a building.
Our vehicles are really unsecure to this type of attack. Take that rod out and we're a lot better off.
Sorry to hear about your truck getting broken into. That sucks! As for a trunk monkey, I could have used one when someone backed into my truck the other day and bent my rear bumper.
I make a point of NEVER leaving anything of value inside my vehicle. Too many punks will break in to get your iPod, digital camera, leather jacket, etc.
