i have a 94 ranger 4 cyl 5 spd. i try to start it and all i hear is a click in the front of the truck coming from a part thats mounted on the drivers side fender (was told it may be the voltage regulator but not sure.) this problem has been happening for a week or so now it dose not happen all the time and when it dose i have been able to push start the truck most of the time. i blame last nite on the snow . any help or insight would be helpful .
thank you
brian
The clicking your hearing is the solenoid. I would start by fully charging your battery and cleaning the connections. Then, measure the battery voltage not running and then again running, you should get 12-13v and 14-15v respectively.
i did as ken said cleaned battery terminals and connectors and still same result. tested battery and got 12.5vdc push started car and tested battery and it was 14.8vdc . what would make the car not start? once it is started it runs great but it just dosent start on its own

Check the connection at the starter. It could also be that your starter is flaming out. Do you get power to everything (lights, radio etc.) when this happens?
I'd look at the starter. I'm not familiar with the 94. Is the starter solenoid attached to the starter or is mounted on the firewall. It may be a bad solenoid as well. Try that first it's a cheaper fix.
the solinoid is mounted on the drivers side fender. i hear it click when i try to turn the car over would it make noise if it were good or bad ? im gonna go out and check the starter connections in a fue minutes thanks
Since the light don't dim I don't think its the starter, start with the solenoid and then the battery cables, the cables can corrode inside but still look fine on the outside.
