i believe this is the multimeter method
http://fords.kilonet.org/ken00/EECIVQT.pdf

you can also get a code scanner from autozone or the like for 20 dollars, it comes with the instructions and a complete list of codes.
codes are also in the tech info thread under "2 and 3 number EEC-IV codes" and "more EEC-IV codes"

EEC-IV codes can be pulled with a scanner, a voltmeter, or by using a jumper and the CEL. OBD-II codes can only be pulled with a scanner. The year of your truck (not shown) determines which system you have. The codes are stored in the computer of the vehicle.

So, CowboyBilly9Mile, how would you pull engine codes from a '98 2.5L?
Does this '98 2.5L have the OBD-II?
Can its PTM chip be re-programed?
Thanks, OFG49

You would need a ODB-II scanner to pull the codes. They make programers, see our site sponser, motorhaven.com to see if one is available for your truck.

CarChip

I bought a CarChip a couple weeks ago, and it pulled the MIL (Malfunction Indicator Light, aka CEL, check engine light) code, but the only parameter it pulls is trip time. I'm going back and forth with their tech support, and it looks like they are going to do a firmware update for me.

try an internet search for it CarChip or try ebay. I'm a new user and can't put up the link.
