cruise control / electrical problems

The vehicle having problems belongs to my brother. A month ago, he was using the explorer to jump a vehicle, and the jumper cables inadvertently were crossed. Since then, the cruise control does not work, and the thermometer / compass does not work. He does not have the owner's manual, so we do not know what fuses are what. Anyone have a diagram for the fuses? Any Ideas what could be wrong besides just fuses? His explorer is a 97 4x4 xlt (I think) with a 4.0. We are trying to get it fixed before this weekend, for a trip to chicago. Any ideas are appreciated. Thanks

Try this link: Owners Manual

Looks like the #10 fuse might be blown. I would use a test light and check all the fuses - both under the hood and in the cab - just to find any that might be out.

Hook your ground wire of a test light to a bolt to ground it. Then touch the pins on the top of the fuses (do this with the fuse still in the panel). There will be one on each side of the fuse. Some of the fuses are in slots that need the key to be turned to the 'On' position to get power to them. You should always have one side of the fuse with power. The other side should light up also if the fuse is good. If it does not light up, the fuse is blown. The only exception to this is turn signals or hazards. They will blink when the turn signal is working. Hope that makes sense...
