Smile Changing gauge cluster

Hello everybody,

I am tring to change my gauge cluster from idiot lights to full gauges. If I change the oil and water sending unit and the cluster the wiring should be the same? I would rather have full factory gauges then aftermarket gauges.

I would appricate any input.

Thanks,

Steve

I would assume so. I'm not sure if the sending units need changed?? Have you checked to see if they list different part numbers??
Might only have to change cluster?

The bad part about it is, the factory cluster WITH guages is only barely better than the idiot lights for accuracy. You just get to see a needle swing instead of a light flash.

Yes, the wiring is the same but you do have to change the senders. senders for lights are on/off, senders for guages have variable signals. Hawkrod

Thanks, the sending units are different. I just don't know if I want the aftermarket gauges. I have a set of mini gauges(oil, temp and volt) I just don't know if it will look good under the dash.

Thanks for the advice, I think maybe I will keep the aftermarket gauges, they will be a little more reliable.

You could do a search about using the guage bezel out of a F600/F700 and then putting aftermarket guages in it. There are a few guys here that have done that...

i just replaced the cluster in my 72 and have a set of working factory gauges you can have if you want to pay shipping. On mine, it was the printed circuit that was bad, so I made one good cluster from my old one and an e-bay purchase.

Be awear that 67-69, 70 and 71-72 were different. 70 was the first year for the printed circuit and is different than the 71-72 circuits, how ever I believe the guages from 70-72 will work.

Thanks, but I already have another dash with the factory gauges. I just have to get the sending units or just put aftermarket in.

Thanks everybody for the feed back,
Steve

after market guages

Go to boss auto parts. they have a replacement dash pannel for 5 or 6 guage clusters for your truck. They also have a lot of other parts that are hard to find.

I'm thinking about using carbon fiber sheet to fab my own gauge cluster (71 F100). I like the way carbon fiber looks and it contrasts white face gauges well. Just a thought.
