Well, yesterday was the first Saturday with good weather that I wasn't otherwise committed. With help from my two teenage sons & one of their friends, we pulled the engine/tranny from the donor & set it in the frame.
Nice!
Nice clean frame prep, looks like a 9" rear and is that disk brake fronts I see too? The springs look nice too. Kinda suprised to see a fresh straight six going in. But then again I am kinda an FE freak myself.
The truck's a 1970 Styleside SWB; it originally had a 6; when it got tired, Grandaddy replaced it with a 302 and a C-4. To tell the truth, I never really liked it with the V-8. When the donor truck became available I grabbed it -- the engine is a parts house long block with an Offy intake, Holley 4-bbl, and headers w/less than 5K miles. I also got the disk brake front end and a nice bench seat to replace mine.
Last summer I tried to sell off my truck, no one wanted it, then this opportunity came up to fix her back up relatively cheaply. Divine intervention? The truck's been in the family since 1970, I guess it likes us & wants to stay!
The plan is: I-6, 4 speed, disk brake front, relocated fuel tank, diamond aluminum bed floor, custom rear bumper with led taillights. Hoping for a head turning daily driver. It'll be used to pull my 1953 FORD Jubilee, makes a pretty rig. Oh, air horns (heh, heh) - just got them off e-bay cheap; and keeping my eyes open for a set of cable operated exhaust cutouts. :-)
I've got a couple of 1979 parts left if you're looking for anything. The body is pretty much shot, but I do have a nice LF fender. There's also a pretty good salvage yard here that specializes in Ford pickups from 1950 to 1990.
