I have a F150 XLT triton V8 with 4.6L and am planning on towing approximately 4900 pounds boat and trailer. I am not sure of my trans differential (3.08 or 3.55). My truck has the trailer hitch looks like atached to the chassis. Can anybody tell me if my truck is capable of towing this load and any advice I need to consider. Also, how can i determine the trans ratio. I forgot to mention that it is a 1998 and in good condition even though approximately 115,000 miles.

How sure are you of that 4900#? You should get it weighed to find out; I'd be willing to bet that, loaded up with gas, gear, and toys, you're gonna be closer to 6000#. Does the trailer have brakes on both axles?
