I would say it should be fine, as I can handle a 5 horse slant with my 86. I pull a 1500 lb flatbed carrying 4000-5000 lb cars regularly, and doesn't begin to work it. Although I have a diesel, you should still be able to handle that load, as I estimate it to be say 2000-3000 for the trailer, and 2400 for the horses, a total of 5400 for the max estimated load, shouldn't be too much of a problem for your truck.

Yes, it should do fine. My carburated 5.8 with a 3.54 axle pulls the same load. Plus a couple bales of hay and camping gear. Your fuel injected truck has more power and a better axle ratio. So it should do it, no worries!

You shouldn't have any problems. I also have 2001 F250 SD - only diff is that it has 4.10 axle. My daughter and I did a one trip from Portland, OR to Seattle, WA and back and pulled our 2 horse trailer with "the boat" (affectionant name for our horse - 17 hand warmblood) with no problems.
