Anybody know where I can get a original-type gas cap from for my '75 F150? What is the correct part # for the cap for trucks without evaporative emissions and the rear styleside tank. I want the type that can be painted to match the truck. I recently bought a new one and it's chrome with writing all over it. I had to get three caps before I got one that fit. I got one from a junkyard in good shape but the cams were too deep. Then I ordered one and it was the same way. Finally I just went by Advance Auto and they got me the right one-or at least one that doesn't leak gas everytime I go around a right turn. It just stands out like a sore thumb.
I went to a Kragen Auto Parts store and went through about 5 packages before I found a match. they just kept taping the packages up as I brought the caps back in until I got the right one. The book called for the wrong application.
First
have a look at this site's sponsors pages as they are the ones that keep this web site going.
then without any luck, these are options.
call the Ford Dealer to get a part number, if it is an obsolete part, then take the part number they gave you and call Green Sales at 1-800-543-4959, they deal in obsolete parts. You can also go to there web site at green*******mpany.com
Hopes this helps.
Good luck

Thanks. I called them and ordered one today. They checked their catalogs and found the one that would fit. The one from the parts store fit well but stood out like a sore thumb. To me the body colored caps just look best. I'll paint the cap when I do the rest of truck.
