More info. Year, 4x4 switch or shifter, etc. Take your time and tell us all you know, and watch the typo's, makes it hard to read. Do a search of the forum. Theres a lot of post on this subject. Just from reading other post I'd say it's probally one of the vacume selenoids not engaging.
on the pass side firewall, there are two small cylider looking modules about the size of a c battery but longer (apx), both will have vac lines going in to and out of them, plus they will have a solenoid on the top of each one. my 01 screw wouldn't go into 4x4 this past weekend when it was really cold out. i popped the hood and tapped both solenoids and then just sat there and waited for about 10sec, it went into 4x4. i have taken the tops off the solenoids of other fords and lubed them with a good pen fluid (don't use a greasy kind use something really runny that doesn't leave a film) to get them to work. ( take out the small foam filters in them, then soak the top of the spool, let them sit) this is a good first try at a fix. when you are under the hood youcould try (with the engine running) changing the vac lines around after you spary them just to get the spool to move a little. but make sure to but the lines back in the right spot.
hope this works, as its a prety cheap fix if it does.
ps. inspect the lines and wires while you are poking around.
yea we did that its not the problem we think its the drive train is this possible? there was a loud poping noise b4 thsi all started very loud we chedked everythign the drive shaft is running.. soemthign with the drive train we think...
O kay, try getting all four wheels off the ground , engage the 4wd and see if the front drive shaft is engaging,(if not the tranfer case is not engaging) if so check the solinold is working on the axle, spin the front wheels by hand, they need to be turning for the axle to lock in.
