Does anyone know if the Lariat's computer will alert when an oil change is due? My Grand Cherokee's computer can be programmed to alert every 3000, 6000 etc. miles when the vehicle is due for maintenance. Does this truck's computer have that capability?
I initially thought the Lariat's Message center would do this, but have discovered it doesn't. I believe Ford was a bit misleading in their brocure. It led me to think it would tell you when to change the oil. I know GM products will tell you how much oil life is left.
I personally wouldn't want this feature. I change the oil when I want to and keep track of my own schedule.
but on those you get to reset them whenever you change them. my car gets shared and the women drivers dont pay attention to anything so it helps me out cause it flashes for them and if i wanted to change early i just do and reset the counter. some of the luxury cars even checks the oil not just do it by mileage which is cool cause it is supposed to really work.
I also assumed my Lariat's computer would display oil life percentage. As the post above stated I discovered this is not the case. Although I have a set interval regarding changing the oil I still like viewing the percentage. This feature is in the Explorer and on my Mark 8 - strange that Ford decided to leave it out yet advertise the computer. Still love this truck.
Oil lifeage computer only measures your driving habits and benchmarks this against some predetermined program. It doesn't analyze the oil. The program makes assumptions of the oil to be used.
