Am getting ready to pull my 16 ft. cargo trailer with 4 bikes (with 4 adults in cab) down to Fla. next week. No real problems with truck, egr fell off, have predator (65hp) stock exhaust.....My question is should I go get the latest flash? I've been reading about those who are happy with the latest one. Improved milage etc. I could complain to the dealer that my fuel guage takes a bunch of miles to go down the first 1/4 of a tank then falls to empty in the next 150 or so miles. So what should I do? Flash or not? I'm extremely satisfied with my set up now with about 9000+ miles. Need some input!!
Your running on the predator and your extremely satisfied.... so what's the point.
The point is that maybe Ford finally got a flash that actually does what it is/was purported to do. I'd like to get a bit better milage and a little less turbo lag. I'm not complaining about the performance of my truck. It traversed through 21" of snow pulling out everything I hooked onto and never let me down. It starts well in the cold whether I plug it in or not, pulls whatever I hitch to and has plenty of power....but if there is a flash that will put some icing on the cake wouldn't you investigate it? I've owned Fords for about 20 yrs. or so and they all have got "good" mileage (from apparent fuel guage reading) and then the second half of the tank you'd think there was a hole in it. I'd just as soon have a flow guage that tells me how many gallons/pounds of fuel I have used as opposed to a fuel guage that is not constant. I've heard so many horror stories of flashes that weren't what they were supposed to be that I was looking for some of those out there that had some input on it.
OK my diatribe is over, my fingers are getting tired Everyone have a good weekend.

Shoot, my '95 F-250 with the 460 does the same thing with the front tank reading, when its full it stays there for 75-100 miles and then it hits about 1/2 tank and then it races to empty within 50 miles and it seems like you can run forever on empty, the back tank is MUCH more accurate, and it will correctly show the fuel level and when it reads empty--your rear end better be in a gas station!.
jdadamsjr, Thanks for your input....Exactly the responce I was hoping for. Was wanting someone who I recognized/trusted their opinion (no flames intended) to give anything on newest flash. I hope I have time to "git 'er done" before I leave next week. I'm not sure if my local Ford dealer has equipment to do it. I hope they do as I won't have to go to Columbus to do it. Our town kind of has a Ford Lite dealer. You know ...no body or paint shop...not much inventory. I think they do mostly dealer trades. Thanks again.
Flash or not to Flash. Have an 04 F-350 Super Cab 4x4 Short Bed ,6.0
It is stock. Less than 8,000 miles, to me it has plenty of power. Why should I flash. What does flash do any way. Puzzled in Virginia.

Get the latest flash. It is worth it. If Ford had done this latest flash instead of the Oct 03 flash, I might not have gotten the Predator. It is that good.
Curious and learning here. So I take it that Ford comes out with a new version of "Flash" programming now and then and you can take your truck to the dealer and have the latest flash program downloaded for free. Right? Educate me... Thanks!
Yes...
just like the computer software you are using now -
as Ford finds things they want to "tweak",
they release a new version of the "program",
what is referred to as a flash here ....
and some won't do it just because - but if u know what it "tweaks" you just say that...
SBV45...you have an '03. Is the flash you are refering to good for the '04?
I have a build date 10/03/04 F350 CC LB 4x4 6.0. It runs great, gets about 14 mpg around town, but I would be interested in getting better.
Shall I dare....?
The 04 has a different set of electronics. I think the FICM is different. So they compile the code for the different hardware. I digress. Anyway the latest Ford flash is pretty good comparing it to previous Oct 03 flashes. It now feels like what I bought originally.
This flash with the Predator is just too costly, rubber, fuel, etc.
