Wow, i've never heard of that (guy having good feedback the screwing like 20 people one last time).
This is why I use a credit card, not my ATM bank card, I've been reimbursed by my credit cards twice, (once from Capitol One and Chase), not a lot of money, I just don't like being taken.
Whenever I buy something over 10 bucks, I like to comb over their feedback and see what items they've sold before (if they've only sold things for $1 and now are selling a $500 thing, i might skip them).
Even if they do have neg. feedback, doesn't mean their bad. Look at the person who left the bad feedback and see how many neg's they got. Some sellers attract bad buyers. Right now, I think i have a 30 rating, with 1 neg (seller didn't list shipping price in item, jacked it up for a license plate, I refused.) and I'm at only 96%
I've had perfect luck so far w/ about 40 transactions, but I watch stuff all the time, and I do see games going on. I watched a trumpet fail to meet the reserve at $710, then they re-listed it no reserve, and it only brought $275. What happened to the bidders that pushed it up to $710 a week earlier? As for snipers, I have a friend that lives to snipe. He has his computer timed to the last second so he can swoop in and get stuff. I guess that's fun for him, but I generally know how high I'll go, and stick with it, just like a live auction. One thing that annoys me though, is if you're willing to go higher to meet a reserve, but nobody else is bidding. Than what do you do? I've e-mailed sellers after the auction offering to meet the reserve, but I've never heard back. I guess I could get a friend to bid 'against' me til we hit the reserve. It's gettin' harder to get bargains anyhow. I've seen the intake manifold I want go higher than you can buy it new from half a dozen places!
I haven't got burned yet, still waiting. I did get shipped the wrong item 1 time. Item I wanted was $20 shipped, item they shipped was worth $50. They wanted me to pay return shipping, so I just told them I'd keep it. Sold it for $30 and bought the item I wanted and pocketed $10.
I've watched my wife get into bidding wars and pay 2x what an item is worth. I usually wait until 20 seconds to go and snipe.
You can still get deals, you just have to be willing to wait and watch for a couple of months. I picked up a DJM shackle/hanger kit for my truck for $73.....shipped. That kinda deal is HARD to beat. Kit is new but the bolts are missing, I can get them from work.
I bought 2 CB radio antennas, 2 mounts, 2 springs, 1 18' coax, and 3 3' coax in an off-ebay deal from a seller. Got sent 1 antenna, 2 springs, 1 18' coax, 1 3' coax, and 2 of the wrong mounts. I e-mailed him and he sent me the other antenna and 2 of the right mounts. I still have the other mounts worth about $30 and im still missing the 2 3' coax worht about $2, no problem though Ill sell the mounts on E-bay if he doesn't send me the right coax.
My wife and I live for Ebay... and Yahoo Auctions. We look there first before buying anything local. (we live in a small town and have to drive 1 hour to shop anyway) We decorated our wedding 2 years ago with stuff from Ebay. Never been burnt, but did get something we didn't want because we didn't read the auction very well. So now we double check everything, shipping, aution end time, etc. A Lot of the "Sinpers" are a program you can find on the web. (search google) You just enter the auction number and it snipers with seconds left in the bid. I just enter the max amount of what I want to pay, and I either get it or not.
Ive noticed that a lot of sellers that sell a cheaper product, when it craps out, they leave a negative feedback in response to the negative left by the buyer. I've been burned once on Ebay, but the postive transactions keep me coming back for good deals.
