4wd mpg

any ways to increase gas mileage in my 85 f150 4x4? i live in city and dont use the 4wd

Hi,

The only way to improve mileage is to buy a Ford Escort and drive it!

Sorry, but I couldn't resist.

Do you have manual hubs? Going to manual should save some as yer not turning as many drive train conponents. You could also change out the gears in the diff's to a numriacal higher gear set. This is expensive though.

You have to remember that these ole 4x4 trucks were not made to get high mpg.

Make sure it is tuned up and operating properly as well as the above. Alterations such as bigger tires or diff gearing will NOT pay for themselves in fuel savings.
