If you had a totaled 88 F-150 4x4, would it be easier to pull all the running gear including the transfer and front axle and put under a 2WD or pull the cab, bed, and fenders off the 2WD and put on the 4x4 frame. Both 88 F-150 short beds.

No way, the suspension is a bolt in job. You'd have to change the tailshaft on the trans to bolt on the transfer case. There are LOTs of threads on this. I have two, look for "Fords TTB, whats wrong with it" in the 87-96 and 4x4 forum from a few months ago. Also, type in 4x4 conversion or 2wd-4wd into the search feature if it's working. I've typed this information several times. Its really not that hard to swap a 2wd to 4wd if you have some mechanical knowledge. The hardest part is getting parts.
Primary rig is Green Thunder:
95' F-150 XLT 4x4, 302, 5 spd, MSD 6A, Flowmaster Exhaust, Sunroof, Clear corners w/ Diamond headlights, CD player with 2 10" subs and some 32" BFG Muds
.
Thats it for now, saving for a stang. Check out my Gallery for a look-see.

I would definately bolt up the 4x4 components. I have done two this way, with the trucks side by side, can swap out in a weekend by yourself and a floor jack (assuming the trannys are the same - meaning auto to auto or standard to standard)
You'd need a few people to swap out cabs and beds.
thats my two cents.
