which will be the result from making out of a 360 with 428 crank, 390 pistons, and bored .060, I just wanna get the most from my 360 without taking it to the limit, like no overbore, how or what maight i need? thanks for any info and advice
Well you will need to overbore to the next size, like stock to .030" over, or .030" to .060" over. This is to remove any ridges that may catch the piston rings, as the piston will be moving farther in the bore.
The result of a 360 block and a 428 crank is a 410. You will need 390 or 428 rods though. There are two lengths of rods used in all FE's, these are the short and long rods. Short rods (what you need) are 6.488" long. Long rods (what you have now in the 360) are 6.54" long. Any short rod should work, aside form special nascar rods that you'll not find cheap so dont even worry about that.
So the formula is a 360 block, 428 crank, short rods, and 390 truck pistons, preferably not dished.
Just look at it this way. You want parts tah will work together to end up with .010 to .040 deck height. You find this by taking the deck height minus 1/2 stroke, rod length, piston compression height the resulting numder will be the deck clearance.
For ex
10.17 stock deck height
6.488 short rod (long rod cannot be used without custom pistons)
3.98 stroke
10.17-6.488=3.682-1.99=1.692
so you would need a piston that has a compression height of 1.652 to 1.682
So if the truck piston as kurt said matches up it, you will need to use it.
If you go to 1.733 or more comp height your piston will physically smack the head.
and yeah the 428 crank and stanard bore is 410, the .030 over would be like 416 ci. The .060 over block is like 422 and .080 over is a 428.
