352 to 360

How compitable are parts from a 352 to a 360? My 69 F100 has a 360, and I picked up some exhaust manifolds from a 352 (1960 Thunderbird) for free. Will they fit on the 360, or would I need to keep looking for ones for a 360? Thank you for any information.

They will fit the engine but probably won't fit in your truck because the exits are in the wrong place.

If it's in your budget i'd recommend a set of headers...even on a stock FE headers are a vast improvement over the stock manifolds.

You can pick up cheapie headers for $160-180 at Summit or Jegs.

I believe passenger side manifolds are different between cars and trucks, & will not exchange.

Agree with go with shorty headers.

The truck currently has some headers on it. I'm wanting to go back to what it would have come with. I'm trying to get this truck back to original. The manifolds from the 352 were given to me for free, so didn't waste any money on them.

I myself can't see why you would want to have less power and drink more gas just to be original. But I like modifications.

352 is 4.00 x 3.50

360 is 4.05 x 3.50.

Ford stopped making the 4" bore 352, and instead used the same block as the 390/410 along with the 352 crank and rods. In the case of the 360 version, they used 390 car pistons, resulting in a sunken piston and low compression, which is what they wanted. For the 390, they used the standard 390 rods but used the short compression height 410 piston, again resulting in a sunken piston and low compression.

So the move to the 360 from the 352 was a way to reduce costs by using the same finished blocks, and have something "new" for '68, even though it was all just existing parts.

352s had slightly different compression due to different pistons.

352s were also car engines, with PI and higher compression 4bbl models. The 360 was pickups only.

Since the truck isn't my daily driver(anymore) I'm not concerned with the power/gas issue. Since I am restoring it to original, this is one thing that I want to do as well. I'm just the opposite of you. I don't like modifications, I like things to be original.

Well since it's a 360, it isn't going to make much of a difference anyway. Like the later 351M, the 360's were pretty much the Lo-Po FE's on the totem pole.

The one thing that isn't original that I will keep on there, is the carb. It currently has a Holley 4v. I rebuilt it, and it works great. I've heard bad things about Holley carbs, but so far I haven't had any issues. It was rebuilt about 3 years ago now. Passes emissions every year no issues(Arizona 1967 and newer have to go through emissions).

I'm also getting 10mpg with the truck.

Trying finding a carb that somebody doesn't bad mouth. There isn't one.

Chances are, the 1960 manifolds don't have the same casting numbers as the original ones did.

It's not the casting numbers that matter here it's the exit angle of the outlets. As jowilker mentioned the pass side exit's are different between cars and trucks.

when FE 's came out gas milage and cost wasn't a issue like it is now . Now an FE is either your hobby vehicle or its still a work truck . I don't see many FE powered cars any more for daily drivers .

Which headers does yours have on it? I wonder if anyone here would know whether they would fit on my 75 4x4 without issue. If they would then we could swap.
