Rear end gears

I need to know my rear end gear ratio in my truck. I have an 86 f-150 w 302/efi. It is a 4wd 4spd AOD. What came standard>

there is a tag on the rear housing for the rear end the bottom number like 4:17 should tell what ratio it is... I would imagine it is 4:15 to 4:55 usally 4x4's are geared real low

If you can't find any tags :

First jack up one side at the REAR of the truck ,make a chaulk mark on the tire and a corresponding mark on the ground/driveway/garage floor.
If the tire won't turn freely >you have a locking rear end which means ,you now jack up the other side too.

Now align the tire mark to the ground mark >
While turning the tire ONE revolution >Count the number of times the driveshaft turns >
If the DriveShaft turns 3 1/2 turns to One revolution of the tire >
You have a 3.50:1 rear > If it turns Just around 4 times >chances are you have a 4.10:1 rear

Ford offered 3.55 or 4.10. These are the most common, you probably have 3.55 as this seems to be the case with most 150's, but never hurts to check

There's also a tag on the driver's door post that will give your axle code. If you can find it, post it and I'll let you know what ratio you have.

Hey thanks guys this really helps. Also Is the front going to be the same or is the ratio going to be a little smaller.

They are usually the same AFAIK.
The tags >
They are so important especially if the Door is the original and the tag hasn't been removed.
