ranger rear end gear ratio?

my dad owns a 97 ranger xlt sport, 5 spd, 2 wheel drive 4 cylinder, im wondering what the gear ratio is in the rear end, i was guessing 2.8, but im not sure, any info would help.
my second question..is there a rear end with positraction that will interchange with the current rear?
3d..is there a rear end or part available to lower the gear ratio?
thanx, any help would be appreciated..

First look at the tag on the rear end for the gear. I don't know about the second question. And third yes there is lower gears for that rear. Go to Randysringandpinion.com or you local performance shop and ask them.

the sport package came with a 3.73 rear end (IIRC)
there are limisted slip rears in the aftermarket
and to lower your gears next step is 4.10 (I have this and love it)
4.10 = more torque less high end
