I have a '85 Bronco with a 351W HO and I think that my rear oil seal is shot. I still need to get under there and clean it up to be dead certain that it's the rear main seal instead of the intake gaskets (or something else), but I am about 90% sure it is. Is this a 2 piece seal or am I going to have to pull the transfer case and tranny to get the one piece off? If that's the case, she's going to the shop next week! If anyone knows if this is a 2 piece, please let me know. It will make my stress level subside a little until I can get under there and check it out for myself.
You cant tell if its the intake or rear main unless you get under ride and look up at top of bellhousing. They way the oil travels down the seams looks just like a main seal leaking......And "ALL SMALL BLOCK FORD INTAKE GASKETS LEAK " when they age...its a fact, and the chokes don;t work p.s. pumps good bad ,rear fuel tanks leak,But there ARE the best trucks period!!!!
I'll take my leakin' Bronco over just about anything on the road. Although, I've always wanted do drive one of those fancy, high-priced Italian sports cars.
While doing my engine swap recently (300 to 351W HO), I replaced both the front and rear main seals and the rear was indeed a two peice seal. This was on an 85 motor, and I believe yours should be the same. Mine was easy since the motor was upside down on an engine stand at the time. Good luck.
