I just changed the oil in my truck for the first time since owning it. I went with 5-30 Valvoline. About how long does everyone here go on oil? My vette (Mobil1)recommends 7500 miles between changes. I usually go a little more than half that. 4k. That may be overkill, but I want to take care of my truck just as well. I was just wondering what a good number is. Thanks.

I always change mine between 3000-4000. Ford recommends a little longer, but using valvoline or motorcraft, it costs less than 20 bucks to change it. Having dirty oil in an engine is one of the worst things you can do to it so I say just change it often.
it also depends on what kind of conditions you drive in and how you drive it. if you drive it easy and drive in clean air, you can go longer but drive it hard and dusty conditions, you have to change it more often. we change oil in my race car every two to three weeks.
Changing syn oils at a 3K interval wil get real expensive, real fast. Conventional oils are more than capable of a 5k interval at 1/4 the cost. Even cheapo house brands can run a 3K OCI.
Check out the Oil and Lubrication Forum.....so much knowledge to be had in that forum. Pay special attention to posts from Flash, DOHC, Horsepuller, jimandmandy, and other O+L posters, as they are in my book, oil experts.
