Where to get oil changed?

Hey I need to get my first oil change in my dump truck. Where should I go, the dealer? What about valvoline?

Matter of opinion and what you think is best for your vehicle, I would just do it myself, very straightforward procedure. Can have a lot of discussion about oil brands but if you stick to the regular intervals, anything will do the job. I would use a lighter weight (like 0W40) if the vehicle sees cold starts during the winter.

If you can't do the oil change yourself, then I would recommend a Ford dealer.

I won't let the quick change guys even look at my truck. It's me or the dealer.

Ford has quick lube places...sometimes at the dealer, other places in its own building. That is where I would go. A little lower cost and quicker. Still Ford and still warranty covered.

Overwise change yourself...but never those fly by night places.

And sometimes the dealer scares me. My suggestion is when you use any place or any one other than yourself, make sure you know what is going in and on your vehicle BEFORE IT IS DONE. I marked the oil filter with a Sharpie before I took mine in to the dealer last week for my "free" oil change. Before I drove off the lot, I checked the filter, IT WAS NEVER CHANGED....I walked in and made a scene in front of several people as this is a large dealership. I had taken pics with my phone before and after. Then after the diesel tech came out to check it, it was overfilled by nearly 3 quarts. When that happened I asked to see what oil was put in this vehicle. Folks it was not CJ-4 oil, it was 5-20, Motorcraft blend for gas engines pumped out of a 55 gallon drum obviously. I wanted to talk to the yahoo who did the work, and it was someone they had just hired the day before to do oil changes and windshield wiper blade changes..OMG.... They offerd me 1 year of free oil changes, big deal....I declined, will never go back, will do it myself as I have done for 40 years. Silly me for wanting to trust the dealership. I actually knew better!

What's the view on using Royal Purple oil and K&N oil filters in the 6.7's? Do they both meet the Ford spec?

CJ 4 rated diesel motor oil is the requirement. Only OEM filters.

Looks like only RP & Redline 15w40's are CJ-4 rated. The 6.7 gets 5w40 though?

You can run 15/40 but need to keep in mind temps and operating conditions. Check the owners manual is the best advice for your outside temps and driving conditions.

I ran RP 15W40 and RP 40-2051 filter one time (on a long weekend when all the dealers were closed) with no immediate adverse effects. It was just kind of pricey.

Normally I run Mobil Delvac 1 0W40 with the FL-2051 filter, well, it's a FL-2051S now after they added a silicone drain back flap (for a bottom mount filter?).

Thanks. My cost on RP is pretty good as I have a performance and accessories shop. I'll have to check if any of my suppliers handle Mobil Delvac.

Is the dealer the only source for FL-2015S's in Canada?

I get my genuine Fl2051's from amazon for about 15 bucks. The last time I needed to do an oil change I though I still had one, but didn't. Ended up picking it up at the dealer who charged me $36 bucks for the same thing.

I agree, the only way it will be done right is do it yourself. My Ford dealer used 3 quarts too much of the wrong oil as well. When I took it back, they still got it wrong! Never, NEVER again!

I don't know if the 6.7 service computer program has been corrected, but for at least the first 2 years it called for 15 quarts of 15-40 instead of 13 quarts of 10-30. Did I say NEVER AGAIN?
