Lol its just a general rule of thumb. If its with a Volswagon or a Diesel (usually have bigger holes and drain fast) we reduce it accordingly of course . And I guess its alot easier when your STANDING under the car instead of laying on your back in the driveway trying to do all you can to not get oil in your eyes

I'll tell you the reason we pull the entire plug out. If you just pull it a little out it tends to sometimes splatter around the plug, and at the end of the day I have to wipe and mop up the pit! Not fun when theres oil splatter everywhere lol. Pulling the plug out entirely (from what Ive seen) tends to reduce the mess, plus its faster. Its mostly just a personal choice. There are different ways to do everything.

Ed, not to split hairs with ya, but that is why they make windage trays. I would much rather have an extra half quart than be half a quart low. The only way having too much oil will stress anything is if the crank was spalshing around in the extra oil, which I doubt a half a quart is going to cause. Anyway, when racing, or just accelerating for that matter, more oil will be drawn through the pump, and causing the level to drop in the pan anyway, not to mention, if the pan isnt baffled, sloshing all the way to the back of the pan, where perhaps, the crank may slap some oil.

Just my .02 and not meant to be a flame. It's all good regardless

Phatpony, I agree, and understand what you are saying. The windage trays are important, and are used quite often in cars and truck built in the last 15 years or so. Have a good one, and post often. ED

Someone's already said it, but I'll repeat it. Just buy a new filter, and change the filter. That will just about put you right on the mark.
