Overfilled engine oil

Must have been day dreaming when I changed my oil. Changed it about 800 miles ago, the other day I thought i'd check the level. Pulled the stick out and it was overfull, I drained about a quart and a half out, now its right where it should be. Would that hurt anything?

I wouldn't think anything major. I have overfilled mine by a quart before with no negative reactions.

Thanks for the reply, I figured it wasn't going to hurt anything. Truck is still running fine. Just wanted to see what others thought though

I know a few guys that just dump the 4 gal in at oil change, they say they don't want to keep the qt or qt & a 1/2 around. Say they don't have any problems...IDK

As long as it is overfull from YOU putting a little too much, shouldn't hurt it. (A quart or less.)

If it's overfull because fuel is leaking into the block... Well...

My truck takes 14 qts. whats weird is when i used to use Shell Rotella, i could put 4 gallons in, now with Synthetic i cant. dont know why, unless the new filter is slightly smaller, but i dont think it is. I use Donaldson Oil filters, used to use Motorcraft

I personally don't recommend overtopping oil level as it can create excessive frothing of the crankcase oil this has 2 negative impacts on the PSD 1. Heavy frothing in the crankcase inter fears with piston cooling oil jet spray potentaly allowing piston overheat and subsequent failure! 2. Heavily frothed oil is highly compressable when frothed oil enters the HPOP it is only pressurized to a fraction of it's required psi the same condition then is passed on to the HEUI Where it is only amplified, therefore it is not really a good idea to add that little extra, internationational, spent a long time getting the bottom end just right,so we could go nuts up top, try to remember that MAX means just that MAX!
