Ever since this record rainfall started here in Southern California, I've been constantly reminded that I need new weatherstripping. I have a 1978 supercab. I really need the door seals, the seals for the windows and the vent windows, as well as the weatherstripping for the rear side windows. I've been looking at an LMC truck catalogue and some of the prices seem outrageous, and I can't find the seals for side windows. Does anyone know where I can find these pieces for a decent price? Thanks in advance!
Way back when when I did my '74, the entire set of door and window seals, both sides, ran me more than $300 at Ford, WITH a discount.
Rubber seals are one of the few things that you look at and say "why is that little piece of rubber so expensive?" when the one right next to it is half the price. It's just one of those things, you can't tell looking at them. The trouble is the die setup for producing the seal - as we get into more and more computer-controlled manufacturing, die setup doesn't mean anything and prices start to level out even on low-demand pieces. That's why Edelbrock makes heads for FE's - with computer controlled CNC machines a block of aluminum becomes a head. Change the program, run two FE heads, change again, run 1000 SBC heads
