2005F250,
What did you do differently in the cab compared to using your remote starter? If the remote is set up properly it should still go through the glow plug warm up cycle. It's too bad you didn't get the plug in originally; but i'm not sure why the remote would'nt start it but you could start it with the key (or am I missing something in your original post)? With the truck plugged in the remote has worked at -35C; no problem.

I have only used mine a few times (thirties are rare in south fla), but it sure made it nice for the engine starting up. I would tell your dealer every truck in fla has the cord, give it up!
The cord comes only in cold states as standard option. In what they call "warm states" the cord needed to be ordered by the dealer. This was a new process in 05 and allot of the dealers didn't know about it until it was brought to their attention. When I was shopping for my truck, I surprised a couple of dealers when I walked with them to the lot and pointed out that the cord was no longer standard. Apparently, in Florida, the dealers had the gumption to research their orders. Kudos to them, and good for the Florida buyers.

the reason it wasnt starting in the cold with the remote start was because the installer didnt set the cranking time long enough, i believe he had it set at .6 sec, which as we all know def. isnt long enough on a diesel. thanks guys for the replies, i bit the bullet and got the cord at the dealership for $40. thanks again

You can get a diagram from your dealer showing how to install the block heater cord correctly. Us macho guys think putting on a simple cord should be simple but after you look at all the fasteners, etc it isn't so easy to get it right. I hate to admit it but I asked for the diagram and that made it easy.

Does anyone have the International Part number for the cord? Seems like a much cheaper route. Are they the same between the 7.3 and 6.0?

I need to get ready for the 110 degree heat this summer! One of those good summer projects to get ready for next winter.

Thanks,
Chris

Chris,
If you just go into an International Dealership just tell them what you need. That is all I did. Mine didn't come with any fasteners or anything, just a cord. I put a piece of black split loom around it and taped it good at both ens so the loom wouldn't slide and routed it along the frame and out next to a tow hook. Start from the engine and you will see which way it fits best. I just zip tied it anywhere I could to hold it top the frame also.

Might be easiest to look for the cord itself. The end of it should be on the front of the truck near the bottom of the grille on the passenger side (on a diesel) and mine is tucked right behind that tow hook. Hope this helps!

I have a question about my 2003. I just got it a week ago and it had the original window sticker in it. It was ordered with an engine block heater but I cannot find the cord anywhere on the front. Am I missing something here? Where should it be? It shows it as a $35 option on the sticker.

Gromer,

It is not particularly easy to find until you find it...if that makes sense. It is a black, heavy duty cord with a cap on it. If you have fog lamps look in that area and find the cord from the fog lamp on the passenger side. Then look behind the housing around your tow hook and you will find the cord. OH -- if you have a gasoline engine it will be in about the same corresponding area but on the driver's side. Hope this helps.

Ford dealer tryed to charge me over $50 for cord. Went to International Dealer 5 miles away... $18.72 with tax. I love my pickup, but I hate dealers. Well, maybe not the IH dealer, but they don't sell a light pickup

How do I know for certain if my truck has a block heater. I checked the sticker and it doesn't mention anything about it. For the people who have one factory installed does it list it on your sticker?

thebiga,
look on the passenger side of the truck just behind the front wheel. You should be able to see the plug in recepticle on the side of the engine block.

Read this: http://www.forddoctorsdts.com/articles/article-05-20.php and thanks to Kepler4 that originally posted the link

The block heater is there... You just need to install the cord.

Talking Look here . . .

Here is where the cord goes into the block, above the starter. Check my gallery for this Mod/Addon
