I see the last message was in April. . . Has anyone found an answer or a solution to the vibration and wheel shakes? My SW Georgia dealer says that around August 23-26 he'll have a steering harness and rotors for my 04 Screw. I've heard from some that that doesn't work. teecee3

I don't really understand why this problem keeps coming up. My 2005 with the vibration damper has zero vibration. Smooth as glass. I purchased a receiver hitch and had to relocate the damper slightly but there is still no vibration. I'm thinking this is strictly a problem with the 2004 models. What were the engineering changes that were made other than the vibration damper? I think all of this rotor and rear end business is a lot of bunk. It seems obvious to me that it is a vibration that once started simply keeps on vibrating until cancelled out. That's the purpose of the vibration damper to stop that and lo and behold it works. So why don't they put one of those on there and stop all of this silliness? Doesn't anyone at Ford talk to anyone else. This problem should have gone away a long time ago.
Sometimes I wonder about Ford. My 2003 Escape had a common problem that went on for a long time. The throttle had a "sticking point" when it accelerated suddenly. I took it to the dealer and they didn't know how to fix it but had heard the same from others. Well, they wound up replacing the throttle body and there was zero improvement, which is exactly what I thought would happen. Then about six months ago they had a recall and bingo, the throttle cable was replaced and the problem was fixed. I could have told them that and saved all of that other needless expense and delay. Boggles my mind.
They put the dampner on after the road force balance and new tires and wheels didn't make a difference. They kept my new truck for 72 miles of 'testing' and three or four days 'gone'. The rubber pads didn't take away the shake or the nibble. I've been back in since for another road force balance--no help. Although several people here have already gotten the steering harness and rotors replaced MY dealer says he can't even get them until mid August--that sounds like a story to me! Anyway some have said it helps- -some say it didn't. In the meantime my great looking truck shakes and rattles down the road. They still want a full payment every month- - very sad. tericee3
I get the bed flex when hitting bumpy roads ... I was more interrested in this flex cracking the paint... I figure its all in how thin the steel is they used to reinforce the bed......
Probobly dont what to have a gun safe side around in the back of the bed...
I finally got the steering rack replaced in my 2004 Crew. They insisted they couldn't even get it until Aug. 26 !?! Anyway, it took away the nibble(more like a gobble!) that I had in the steering wheel! I've been driving that truck since Nov. 04 with constant movement in the steering wheel-- it was 'driving me' crazy!! I think they actually smoothed the steering wheel out. I'm afraid to say but I almost like that truck.
I've noticed that most of the models with the vibration issues happen to be FX4's. My 05 scab 4X2 came with P235/70/R17 Hankook tires; I recently changed the wheels and tires to 275/65/R18 BF Goodrich Rugged Trail TA tires. I immediately noticed a very nasty vibration on my once smooth driving truck. I had the tires re-balanced and although it made a big improvement in the ride it was still not as smooth as when I had the original tires mounted. The tire shop set the air pressure at 40psi, 5psi too high, so I dropped the air pressure down to 35psi and it smoothed out the ride even more, still not quite as smooth as the stock tires but I can live with it. I think the vibration may be a combination of an aggressive tire tread and the stock shocks that may be causing some of these vibration issues many are experiencing. For you FX4 folks out there, have your tires re-balanced, let some air out of the tires and see what happens.
I think the vibration could be from any number of things. The vibration we have (04 Crew) is a kind of rolling repeating vibration that you can feel (and see) at constant speed. I really don't notice it too much unless traveling. You can look down the side of the truck and see(!) the vibration. You can feel it in your seat too. After even a 40 mile drive you notice a tiredness from the movement. I just got the wheel shimmy out and replaced the warped rotors so I'm happy for a while.
