Parts books show it as column mounted. Part number is C7TZ 7A247-A . B/up lamps are controlled in this switch along with starting capabilites. NAPA can cross that part number over to thier number. When you remove the switch, there's a little pointer that sticks up. You put the new switch on with that pointer going into a slot in the switch. Tighten the screws and pull the white pin out.

so I just currently got a 77 f250 with a 460 and a c6. Going through the lights I found I had no power coming to the reverse lights at any point. Traced the wires that should go to a neutral safety switch and reverse lights but the start wire for the NSS is going to a aftermarket push button start. My column has no holes on the outside from firewall up to where the cullum harness comes out of the shaft at the Painted lower steering shaft cover. My trans has no switch only linkage and no wires goin to it. Would a transmission mounted NSS for a c6 fix this issue or was the 78-79 c6 built with different mounting locations for the NSS.
This is the 67-72 forum. Not sure of the differences from these steering columns to a 77. My 70 f250 has the NSS on the top side of the steering column below the dash. As far as a tranny mounted NSS, I have never seen one. You might get better advice from the 73-79 section.

I'll give the 73-79 section a shot but its not near as active lately.

I don't know... Seems more active at least with general questions over there than here even. Not as much tech maybe, but you should get an answer there.
I'll go see if you've posted already.
Otherwise I'll come back here and see if I can help!

Good luck.

kid got sick and life got in the way. I'll make a post right now.
Up to 1977 Bumps and Dents had the NSS on the top of the column under the dash.1978 Ford switched it's location to the tranny, part of the shift linkage. If the current column has no holes, it sounds like someone installed a 78/79 column to get tilt wheel. Starting in 1978 Ford changed the column also.

it had to be damaged and replaced. No tilt no holes. Honestly I have no idea what happened. I'll send a email and see if the owner remembers.
I finally found the wiring for my back up lights where it goes into the engine compartment. I had to wire in a connector that runs down to my T18 and this harness was from an automatic truck. I found the wiring first in my 70 f250 with a c6. Beyond that, I havent been forced to learn much more since I have no back up light issue, yet.

If that is the original engine and transmission and the steering column has been changed, you may have a problem. Get under your truck and look at the manual lever and the bosses on the transmission where the NSS would mount. A lot of the transmissions before 1978 did not have the mounting bosses drilled and taped. Also, the manual lever in the transmissions with steering column mounted NSS did not have the keyways cut into it for the NSS to engage. Here are a couple of pictures of manual levers the first is from a 76. No keyways. The second is from a 1988 but has been modified to work in a 1965 with a 79 column. It has keyways for the NSS.

It may have tilt and you don't know it. Back in the 78/79 era, to adjust the tilt one had to push the turn signal lever forward towards the dash, If it does have tilt there is a strong spring that will slam the steering wheel up. Be ready to catch it.
