Reverse light switch on a C6?
Hey guys, I'm working on a '71 F100 C6 auto and the reverse lights do not work. The bulbs are good so there the problem lies down the line. Where is the switch located? I looked on the trans but did not see any switch or wires. Is it on the collum? Thanks!
So the steering wheel needs to be removed (which I'm already in there) and then where is the switch located? All I can find is the cancel cam deal. Could there possibly parts missing or is it down the collum by the floor? I'm in the middle of sottering a new turn signal cancel cam in at the moment. Thanks!

The neutral safety switch is located on the column about 8" off the floor. It looks kinda like the shift indicator. Some of the rev. lights are controlled from the tranny. If yours does not have this, you will have to use the column switch.

Got it, I found the NSS. When I reinstall the turn signal/wheel I push it down and put the switch all the way spring loaded (to the left) then put the collum notch against it so it's got pressure. Correct?
Now, where is the backup lights switch? I can't find it anywhere. Not on trans, not up top of collum, and not below. Maybe it's missing?

John da picker, I disagree. The Netural safety switch is the controller. As I posted before it is like the shift indicater at the top of the column. cw your parts may not all be there.
This is an electrical switch with an indicater controlled by the shift tube. It is a copy of the one at the wheel. When it is in the P or N position current is passed through allowing your vehicle to start, when in the R position the current passes through to light the rear lamps.
The above switch could be broken, all of the parts not there, or just out of adjustment. It should look very simular to the one at the top with the same action. If it does not you need to find out why.

There is ONLY ONE Neutral Start/Reverse switch on the Steering column for that year. It is located where Jowilker said on the Steering column about 8" from the floor.
Later model C-6 transmissions use a Neutral Start switch which is located on the side of the Transmission.
Sorry for the late reply - we just got the internet working 100% of the time here in IRAQ. Now I have time to read all the messages.. Though I no longer have my 1970 F-100 - rusted brake line took the truck to the junkyard... long story.. I still spent many years turning wrench on her...

Thanks! I wish I had my 460 powered Bronco over here.... I could take the hard top off, mount some armor. Put a gun mount in the bed - we'd be all set!
These Hummers, are DOGS! even though they have a 6.5 Turbo-diesel.... still dogs!

Parts books show it as column mounted. Part number is C7TZ 7A247-A . B/up lamps are controlled in this switch along with starting capabilites. NAPA can cross that part number over to thier number. When you remove the switch, there's a little pointer that sticks up. You put the new switch on with that pointer going into a slot in the switch. Tighten the screws and pull the white pin out.

McManson- Your switch is slightly out of adjustment. Put it in park and loosen the 2 screws slightly and move it a little bit to one side or the other and tighten. make sure it starts in park. Try this a few times to see if it cures the prob. if not, the switch is worn.
