About a year and a half ago my old muffler rusted out and I replaced it with a turbo muffler, cheap and easy. Now, I want it louder so I am putting 40 series flowmaster on it. The problem is that I can not get the old muffler to come off. I just clamped with exhaust clamps. Today, I loosened the clamps and I sprayed it with WD-40, banged, pryed and tried to twist it to loosen it, but it didn't budge. I want to avoid cutting my pipe coming from the cat, because it perfect length and hard to reach where I would have to cut. Is there a tip or suggestion to make it easier to come off or will I have no choice but to cut it?
Heat....heat....and more heat. When I did my complete stem to sturn system. There were a few things that faught me from beginning to end. I did not have any special axcetelyne set up......I used a simple Mapp torch you can get at any hardware store and it workerd great heating things up enough to make them expand and plyable enough to work with.
Clamps will crush the pipe into the inner pipe and look bad. Go with strap clamps like the ones made by Walker. They have them for "butt joints" or "male / female" slip joints. If you use Anti-Seize compound the pipes will come apart later if needed.
