tailgate fell off today

tailgate fell off today
going down the road at 40 mph and hit a bump...a big bang and a look in the rear view mirror and i see it sliding down the road

Fortunately it did not hit any one, as you would have been responsible!
I guess I have to ask, do you normally drive with the tailgate down??? Driving with the gate down all the time is pretty stressfull on the cables and the tailgate in general.

i never drive with the tailgate down so yes this is weird to me ...also yes the latch let go and the gate fell down and then the cables broke and fell off ...i wouldnt want my tailgate all scratched up like that it was just a freak thing i guess

Ive had mine slam down on its own but never come off. Good that it didnt hit anything though...
Seeing those pictures of your truck reminds me of a ranger that belonged to a buddy of mine. He had so many lights on that thing... funny thing is yours has lights in the SAME spots he had his. Except he had 2 sets of fogs in the grill lol. Hes got digital pictures of all their trucks saved somewhere...maybe ill get them on here sometime.
