I'm having chest pains... no kidding. It just took me over two hours to get home from a job 45 minutes away. My PSD was running fine but all of a sudden started to lose power and surge and buck and sputter etc.
Everything read ok on the dash! temp, voltage oil pressure all fine and No Service engine soon light! I stopped several times and got a water in fuel light at the third stop. I drained the filter bowl and finally got on my way. A few miles later, it started all over again! This is similar to when the CPS crapped out on me but the engine never died completely like it did then. I think it's some kind of electrical glitch as a couple times when I stopped, I cut the engine off and when I restarted it, it ran fine for about 1 mile then the problem resurfaced.
Where exactly is the CPS? What else could be going wrong? There is still no service light! It's 11:20 now and I have to leave at 7:00 to be back on the job by 8:00. I can't replace the CPS every other oil change! Anybody got any ideas on what's going on and what to do about it? I really love this truck but if I wanted more problems, I'd have gotten a girlfriend in addition to the wife. (I came back to Ford because of GMC crap like this!)
Open the fuel drain valve and turn on the ignition. The fuel pump will run for about 30 seconds. Catch the fuel in a bucket. See if it's mixed with a lot of water. Continue this operation until no more water comes out. Cycle the key on and off as necessary to keep the fuel pump running. Change the fuel filter and close the valve. Turn on ignition and wait for the bubbly sounds to go away from the fuel filter bowl. Start the engine and drive the rest of the water out of the fuel rails in the heads. If your whole problem was water in the fuel that should do it. Change filling stations!

I followed your directions; no water in fuel at all. I replaced the filter..... yuck! Black as sin and it's only 5k miles old! Guess I'll stop getting fuel at that particular place!
BTW, could there have been any damage to any parts/systems by trying to drive with the filter so messed up? Top speed was only about 40 mph... I wasn't pushing it at all. Anything else I should check out now that the problem is fixed?
