needs some info about efi...
Also, i am thining about getting a computer from a efi truck and installing a factory style efi setup on my '78 302.. would this be alot of trouble to do?
Ford efi is considered a good system, with a good computer that is able to diagnose alot of problems itself. But you have to learn alot about what's going on, and it's not simple. There are lots of wires and sensors.
On your older truck you will have to modify or retrofit a efi gas tank to your truck, since it is setup for the fuel injection pump or pumps (depending on year). You have to run an extra fuel return line to the tank for efi.
You will have to change exhaust manifolds or get your pipe drilled as close to the engine as possible for a oxygen sensor.
Your easiest solution would be to go to the street rod magazines/dealers and get their wiring harness for engine swapping. I think ford motorsport sells a swapping harness too, but all of these will be more for the mustang style efi. I don't know if the truck efi can be made to work with this.
Your best bet would be to find an 85 or an 86 F150 exactly like yours (reg cab - super cab, 4x4 - 4x2) with the 302 EFI then just swap everything over.
EFI is awesome if it works good, if it doesn't then its a pain in the butt. If it was me I would spend the money on a new carb and intake and a new exhaust before I would change over to EFI just because for me to get a new gas tank with a sending unit and an in the tank fuel pump it costed around $300 U.S. and thats just for one tank not installed.
Whatever you decide to do good luck with it and I hope this helped a little.
