Hey guy.. i have a 1978 f100 2wd with a carb 300 i6 and c4 tranny. Well i feel my engine is on its last leg and i have oil leaks from about every gasket and seal on the engine.. so i figure its time for an upgrade.. so i recently bought a 1989 e150 with a efi 300 and aod tranny to swap in my 78 .. so my question is will the efi give me a big improvement over the carb with the aod tranny? I know with the carb setup trying to 75 on the interstate sucked really bad and hope the efi and aod will get my truck past the 80 mph mark. Thanks
Drivability will improve greatly, don't expect too much more up high after all the 300 isn't a high hp engine. I did the swap in my 78 and love it. Was fed up with worn out Carter YFA carbs.
Thanks ..yeah that the 1bbl is a pain in the a$$ ..Are you running the aod as well and just curious how does it handle around 70 to 80 mph? I ask because i do alot of hwy driveing and the speed limit is 70 and my truck likes 65 and no more and it sucks when i get passed up by chevys and 4 bangers lol
I wish i had manual tranny setup..lol i would have been alot simpler than the automatics.. i drove my buddys 94 f150 with the 300 and 5speed and it was quick and smooth..im not much in to towing any thing just strong and reliable.. and i have a heavy foot so i thats why i want to stay with the 4.9 i like the lowend torque.. i just hopeing with the efi and aod ill stay under 2500 rpm at 70mph because with the c4 its running high rpms since its only a 3 speed and it get loud and anoying after awhile.
My old 94 wouldnt touch 80. Id keep the carb setup, they get much better mpg then efi.
Well thats not what i wanted to hear..lol i fugured the aod would of helped with that.. the only prob i have with carb setup is the warm up in the morning for witch it runs like crap .. some mornings ihave to jump in and get my a$$ to work but stuck waiting for the warm up..
