I pop the hood on the ole stroke today to look it over, I'm gonna make a trip tommorow and pick up a trailer so I wanted to give the once over. I don't drive much this time of year, but I did use it on Saturday. When I leaned in to check oil I heard a faint bubbling/gurgling sound. Further investigation revealed it was the pass side battery. Sounds just like it does when you have it on the charger. Must have been boiling in there for awhile cause there is white misty corrosion on top. It's one of those maint free ones, although it looks like there top should come off even though I was unable to pry it up.
Anybody know what's up? Is it time for new battery? Started up strong Saturday, no problems. Help please, don't want to get stranded on road, would be embarassing to have dodges & cheys wizzing by.
Do you have motorcraft batteries? If so mime on the last 3 ford's I bought have to be serviced. Don't know if your year truck has a volt gauge but if you do you can check the load test yourself when you start your truck. If voltage drops below nine volts, while tring to start, then your batteries are eather low on charge or on the way out the door. If low, charge over night, recheck batteries, if still drops below nine volts then your batteries are going bad. clean the corrosion off the batteries terminals, battery posts and replace bolts if thay are have corrosion.
If batteries have a rotton egg smell or are swollen then I would replace as well.
your alternator should only be charging at 14.5 volts anything higher could be cooking the batteries.

I have car quest batteries. My dash gage is pretty basic. When I 1st start up it goes about half way discharge for 1st two mins now that it's cold. I have no idea how many volts it pulling, most of that would be for glow plugs any way.
