Which ones block driving lights or force you to remove them?
What brands have you been looking at where this is the case. I know what you mean about some of them not fitting well with the truck. My solution was to just build one myself
IMO...leave well enough alone. The 99 - 04 grills are the best looking ever. I wouldn't do a thing to them. The only grill I've ever considered was an identical replacement except it was all chorme. All of this "billet" aluminum grill stuff doesn't do a thing for me.
Again, not trying to stir the pot...but imho leave the grill alone.
I'm with War. I love my stock grille. It seems like nobody has 'em anymore, maybe it's just me. I wanted my truck to stand out a bit from the rest so I dropped 4 8" lights on the front end.
But, on the other hand. I initially wanted to drop in the monster front end that'll protect you from anything found at www.offroadtechinc.com. (then go to "bumpers on trucks" then scroll down to the SD's). It was just too far out of my price range.
How much protection are you looking for, alot, a little? Like 02 said, what brands/mfg's have you checked out that you don't like (so we can all get an idea).

I'm with you man! First time I saw one of those "Ram" grilles for a Drudge I 'bout ran off the road. Yuck. Nothing like that front end.
Sprtsmn- Are you asking about a whole new bumper system with grill guard? A few people are talking about grills. If your talking about a new bumper w/ grill guard, my favorite is the Warn bumper. You lose the stock driving lights, but there are cut-outs for better ones.
Ok, in review I see you're talking about a grill GUARD. Initially I thought you were talking about a replacement grill.
My very humble opinion on grill "guards" is this...they don't guard anything, they simply add unecessary weight, and they clutter up an otherwise handsome front end.
If you want to mount aux lights this might be justification. I wan't aux lights but haven't found the "perfect" set-up yet. I don't want the front of the truck to look too "busy" and grill guards sure do clutter things up.
But heck, that's just my opinion. If you like grill guards, then put one on. Coolness is a subjective thing for sure. If you're happy with your SD then we're happy.
Not sure if you've seen jetjock16's truck lately, but he put 4 off road lights behind his grille. It turned out great, check his gallery for detailed pics.
I did see his set up. Very nice, and subdued. That grill he used is a complete one piece direct replacement I believe. I do like it. I've always wondered how that grill would look with the "lines" running vertically instead of horizontally...know what I mean?

All that matters --- is what works for the truck owner.
I have a J & J Enterprises 4 piece stainless steel billet and like it! Kind of fills in the empty spots for me.
