The BigTex by Go Industries is the one we have on our Excursion. Everything else looks light duty compared to it. I have yet to see one that looked stronger or better.
But, on the other hand. I initially wanted to drop in the monster front end that'll protect you from anything found at www.offroadtechinc.com. (then go to "bumpers on trucks" then scroll down to the SD's).
Matt - I went to that link and scrolled down like you said. About 3/4 of the way down the page is a picture of a Chevy being lifted with a dozer because the ball joints failed on it!!! Imagine that!!!

Hey Darren! I had to go back to the link and check it out. That's hilarious. But hey, that bumper they're liftin' it with looks like it's holdin' up! What I wonder is, did that pos fall apart in the parking lot??? haa haa.
BTW- The house is goin' up May 1 and I've already talked to a guy about a job so things are lookin' good! Just wish I could speed things up and get on the road! I might have to check the traders for a RR to wheel with so I can keep up! ha ha.

I would say that POS fell apart in the parking lot as there is no mud on it anywhere. I guess the Chevy was mall wheeling when the ball joint went. At least the bumper you wanted is tough!!
That is great about the house and job. Good luck with it all. Yep when you get here we will have to go out wheeling. The Rover group I wheel with the first outing is in May so you might miss that one, but others are throughout the year. The FTE NY chapter is also trying to put some wheeling events together too so we should be able to do an event.

I'll sell you my wife's '03 RR HSE. After I bought my dually last year, that's all she wants to drive. She says it makes her feel "Empowered." And if I have to choose between the "Yuppie mobile" and my little Suzuki Samurai, I'm driving Little Sammy.
ON EDIT:
I've just been informed that I can sell her Range Rover, if she can paint the dually pink. Tough call but the RR is staying.

Reason: Wife didn't think it was funny.

A pink dually hummmmm......... I think you better keep that RR!! Yuppie mobile is right. That is why I got a steal on the two RR's that I have had. They are a great platform to build on for off roading, but most Land Rovers spend all their time at the mall.
Getting back to the original tread.... I have been considering the Buck Stop bumper grill guard for my SD. http://www.buckstop.biz/features.html Anyone have one or heard anything about them? The only problem I have is clearance with a plow and the additional weight of the bumper with the plow, but I have hit enough deer with the RRC and it has been saved by the grill/brush guard that I am considering protecting the SD the same way.
Ronin007- Do a search for the Buckstop bumper in this forum or the 6.0 forum I forget which, but one of them had a discussion about that brand. And for the record. I think I'm still upset that Land Rover doesn't import the Defender anymore. That's the one I was hoping she'd get.

Did a search and they have been mentioned in a couple of threads, but it appears only user shocktower has one on his rig. I still have to do some checking because I have to be able to use whatever bumper I get with a Western Pro plow and not overtax the frontend.
I fully agree on the LR Defender. Would love to own one, but everyone wants too much money for their's. Especially considering I would like to have the 110 instead of the 90. My RRC is the LWB and I like the extra 8 inches both from a wheeling standpoint and interior room. I normally wheel with four of us in the rig so you can see why I like the 110 and my LWB. You should convince you wife to sell the RR and get yourself the Defender.

I can't imagine that any bumper worth putting on wouldn't put a strain on the frontend, especially w/ a plow. The stock bumper weighs next to nothing. Even the ARB Bull Bar on my Samurai weighs about three times as much as the Fords stock bumper. I guess it would be a trade-off. A stout new bumper but also the need for new, stiffer springs to support the weight of the plow and new bumper, but a ride that would probably jar your teeth loose. And thanks for the info. I did not know they made a longer wheel base Defender than the 90. I may have to look into that. And your right, the people who own the Defender's aren't all that willing to part with them. I still doubt my wife would be willing to part with her HSE.
Hi guys, im a new member here and this is my first post but on my 04 SD i got the Luverne tubular wrap-around. It doesnt offer a whole lot of protection per say, but it looks nice without being too cluttered like a few of you mentioned. The headlights are unobscured which i like too. But its all about what you like.
Yep that is my dilemma. I want a bumper that will protect my SD if I have a deer encounter like the ones I have had with the Rover, but still allow me to use my plow and not kill the front of the truck (most likely the axle). Like I said I have to do some more research, but so far I like the Buckstop bumpers.
The Defender 110 was imported just in 1993 the same year as my RRC LWB so you would be lucky to find one for sale and if you did you would be lucky to see it for sale less than the $45,000 original purchase price. They are similar to the 90, but have four doors and can seat seven. Hardtop with full external rollcage. Very cool and the perfect expedition vehicle for me. Hummm.... maybe you would be willing to let your wife paint the dually pink for a 110!!!
BTW I like your Sammy. I always thought about getting one as they remind me of a baby D90. Very capable rig box stock just like a Rover. Yours looks like it is setup nicely.

I had never heard of Luverne, so I looked it up. The pictures I found weren't the best. So if you get a chance post some pictures of your truck so we can see what it really looks like.
Ronin007- Are my eyes on crack or did you really say $45,000 for a '93 Defender 110?

Yep that is correct. The '93 D110 was the introduction of the Defender to the US so only 500 were imported. Then in '94 they started importing the D90 until '97 (however they skipped the '96 model year) when they stopped because the Feds wanted airbags in them. They still make the Defenders just like the '97 model in England today only they can have them in all configurations (softtop, hardtop, pickup, two door, four door, in both 90 and 110 wheelbases). Happy hunting for a 110, but I would be impressed if you got 90!!!
