89 Ranger EXT Q
Hello i just recently purchased a 89 ranger ext with 80,000 miles on it and i am just slowly getting to some of the maintenence on it. first off i changed the oil and then she ran beautifully and i decided to change out my spark plugs, wires, and change the distributor. I used xact plug wires, bosch platinum 2s, and a blue streak distributor. i have the 2.3 liter and i was wondering she is bogging pretty bad on the accel. so i believe my timing is off. i have a timing gun how do i reset the timing? and also when changing plugs i only saw 4 plugs on the top side of the motor. i heard of certain rangers with the plugs on the underside of the engine would there be a possibility of my ranger being one of those cuz i can't seem to find the other 4 plugs if it is. any input is appreciated thanx.

Sounds like you might have the 2.0L engine. It had 4 plugs and a distribuitor, where as the 2.3L had two coil packs and 8 spark plugs. If my ext, you mean extended cab, supercab, than someone might have changed your 2.3L for a 2.0L as I don't think the 2.0L was offered in a supercab.

Did you put dielectric grease in all the wire boots? If you didn't loosen the distributor hold down clamp your timing shouldn't change. I would carefully look over everything you did and maybe put the old stuff back in to see if it runs good again.
