ok here goes the long list of hassle....started out with a rear main seal replaced at 6400 miles along with having a solenoid housing replaced to diagnose some "clunks" and hard shifting along with difficulty going ito reverse. then at 7500 miles had planatary gears replaced and transmission overhauled, but this wasnt a recall my truck didnt fit that category. the very next day i was still having abnormal sounds on the upshift between 2nd and 3rd so i took it back and they adjusted the shift lever for some odd reason which it didnt make any difference so now im back to the dealer tomorrow for the tranny noises and oil leaking from both sides of the motor(source unknown) and a significant amount of transmission fluid leaking from what looks to be a return line. the truck now has 8300 miles on it and is more of a hassle than its worth which isnt much due to the fact that anyone who runs my VIN# doesnt want to even consider buying it........
The rear main seal has been an issue. Assembly lube was found to leak and some have true oil leaks from the bed plate. Do you tow or use your truck to plow snow? Ford has had some TSB's on the issue of trans problems not related to the call back on the planetary in the early 05's.
Document everything. Keeping records of time and service will help you in a DSB.
I had an 03 with the 6.0L replaced with an 04. I was fortunate enough to get the replacement built the way I wanted it. The district Ford rep was involved in this transaction at the beginning but once I received the letter from Ford indicating they were replacing the truck it was between the dealership GM and myself. Overall pretty good experience, other than it took them over 5 months to get me my new truck due to some difficulty getting the seats I had ordered. In the meantime I was racking up the miles on the 03 that were not costing me. The miles I had to pay for stopped when I got the District Rep to agree to buy the vehicle back.
The problem with the 03 was when towing, if the MPH dropped below about 50 and the transmission had not shifted down it would surge and buck very violently. The dealership and Ford had no idea what was wrong. I had it back to them about 6 times for this problem. Of course they never could make it malfunction.
My 04 did a similar thing after I got it. They said the electrical connections between the PCM and the transmission were faulty or dirty. Whatever they did fixed the problem with the 04.
Good luck getting your truck replaced or bought back. I think I am very fortunate the way my replacement vehicle turned out based on some of the stories you read about on this site.

I think he means general manager. Maxium, I have an early 05 e-350 I believe the motor build date is 7-04 and vehicle build date is 8-04, do you know if my tranny would be included in the recall for the planetary gears?
im not sure of the build date of the motor ill get back to you on that but its an 04 bought at the end of september im going to the dealer today to try and get it replaced...not sure what the outcome will be but ill let you guys know...have any of you noticed the "clunk" or "pop" when it shifts from 2nd to 3rd at about 1600-1700 rmp or a pop noise when you put it in drive and take off after backing up....it only does it intemittently its not something that happens like clock work but its enough for me to have my doubts and certainy arise a concern as to whats going on inside my transmission
Seems to me your dealer service is not very good. The service tech can use a dye to see where engine oil is leaking and I would opt for a Ford crate transmission instead of a rebuild.
Guess it is up to you to have it fixed or DSB what has already been an out of service problem. You should of been driving a trouble free truck if the service tech was on the ball.
Not trying to be smart here guys, but information would help us help you.
My truck don't run and the dealer is no help does nothing for us to help you.
