wont the snorkel going into the cab suck the heat out in the winter? does anyone make a snorkel for 73-79 ford trucks?
lol you worry about too much, most of use dont' even have heat (actually i still do but i haven't even thought about it sucking the heat out, course considering i take my doors off it shouldn't really matter too much! LOL)
it shouldn't suck that much but yes in theory it will suck in air from the cab. if t hat is a big concern then you could route it behind a kick panel or something that leads to the outside!
[QUOTE=ivanribic]. Also check the vents on your axles to make sure they're extended high enough to keep water out. Otherwise you'd be best to lengthen them and then replace the fluid in your diffs.QUOTE]
Actually how I deal with that is replace the vents on the diffs with barbed fittings, and run hose (3/8 fuel line is what I am using) from all of your boxs upto the frame, and to the back of the cab underneath then I used a pipe from there through the floor board and sticking up at the back of the cab (it would be behind the seat if you still have a bench seat) then I got a small K&N clamp on vent filter and put on that pipe if I get it deep enough to pull it through that I am sitting in water over my lab
ive got heat...kinda. it barely blows out heat but what heat it does have id like to keep. so does anyone make a snorkel for 73-79's?
I would think that ARB would or has produced one for your truck, but it would be pricey. I have been looking at snorkels for my Range Rover and they are all priced at $300 and up. There really is nothing to them except plastic tubing and clamps so I am planning on making my own now. Probably cost less then $50 in parts from a home store.
I have also seen snorkels as part of an exo-cage. That is another idea and it is always good to have rollover protection too. Of course if you rollover you will be sucking water into your snorkel then, but I kind of think that would be the least of your problems.
i was thinking of making a homemade snorkel that goes from the carb down next to the motor, then use pvc pipe and bring it back under the cab up into one of the toolboxes on my contractor bed. it would probably cost less than 50 bucks and should work good. tell me what you guys think.
pvc pipe in an exposes spot like under the cab is just asking for trouble, it will break real easy expecially if it is really cold, then talk about sucking water into your carb I would find some other place to route it, or something else to make it out of.
My plan is to is to use vacuum hose from the air cleaner routed along the inside fender to a exhaust pipe that will be through my cowl and up along the side of the windshield topped with a tractor mushroom exhaust top.
But being you don't want to go up the piller why don't you terminate at the cowl. If you are getting into water that deep I think you are going have other issues besides water getting in that long of an intake. I do a lot of dusty back road travel and that is why I want mine at the top of my roof.
send me pics when you are done, id like to see what it turns out like. somebody should make snorkels for these trucks, i mean these trucks are pretty popular off road trucks and i looked everywhere and i cant find one for the seventies trucks. thanks
on my FJ40 I use duck tape. Yes the endless wonders of the gray stuff it'll keep it waterproofed and like somebody said earlier a snorkel is a great investment, i know it's not the best looking thing but you DON"T want to suck water. I'm also starting to run a exhaust extender to get the exhaust higher.

What do you mean use duct tape? i was thinkin is there a gasket set you can buy that seals up the air cleaner? just a question.
