Hey all - I went and bought snow tires for my 01 mustang and realized that I don't have the key for the locking lug nut. Will the dealership have a replacement for me without having to order one?
I don't want to wait 2 weeks to put my new tires on.
I get this question at work 10-12 times a week, I work at a LM dealer parts dept. Most dealerships have a master kit of the factory locking lugs. Fords are made by McGard. This kit is NOT for loan or sale as the Service dept. uses it all day long to service cars in the shop so they never have to search for the customers key. We always get calls from folks in a big panic because they never bothered to find out if they have locking lugs and matching keys until they have a flat or are at a garage for brake and tire work. We stock some of them mainly keys we have got stuck with in the past. We tell people to bring their car down and the SD will unlock their wheels for them and tell them their key code so they can order a new one. Sometimes just unlocking them and tossing the locks in the trash is the way to go! If the customer is an a-hole the SD charges them if they are decent they don't. Some of the larger dealers may stock an entire set but if you don't know which one {code #} you have you still gotta go there with the car. Otherwise one must be ordered through McGard.
Sweet. Thanks for the info. I was expecting to go there to have them unlock it and depending on the cost I will weigh the option of throwing the locks away and simply laying on 4 plain lug nuts.
I just wanted to see that they would have some sort of master key so I could get the tires on tomorrow - (It is snowing here as I type).
Btw - I don't know enough about you to determine if you are serious or not on the snow tire comment (even if you are from Florida).
