You can not tap into the "wait to start" light on the 2002 and newer Superduties. The "light" in the dash is turned on by a digital command on the data bus to the instrument cluster. The "light" is actually an LED curcuit operated at 5 volts (so I've been told). On the 6.0 motors, the Glowplug Control Module controls power to each of the glowplugs individually and is independent of the "wait to start" signal. The ECM looks at various parameters ( air temp, oil temp, etc.) to determine how long the "wait to start" indicator should be on and the GCM cycles the glowplugs as required for up to two minutes after the ignition is turned on.
I specifically bought a remote starter with the capabilities to monitor the "wait to start" light. Then after getting deep into the wiring diagrams, I find out it is not feasible on the 6.0 motors.
Nothing is simple anymore....!!!
Maybe it is...
just maybe you're forcing the hard route j/kiddin !
My remote start has been on for almost 2 years and it's always just been a timed event... doesn't monitor the wait to start and it's not important (TO ME anyway) that it does...
never timed it, but I think it waits 10 seconds then starts...
and has never NOT started
Just a thought...
have you EVER really watched the wait to start and seen it take more than 10 or 15 seconds ?
when u start the car remotely, does it REALLY matter if it takes 10 or so more seconds than you think it should to start ?
It's not like you're sitting there waiting on it
I LOVE the remote start and it will be on ANY future vehicles... and given the price of them now, I may start giving them out as Christmas presents !
I just got a Code Alarm CA610. Has shock sensors, starter kill, and remote start. Was $425 installed. So far so good. Only thing I dont like is that the "alarm" is the same one that every car out there has. Can I get a different sounding warning noise? I know some Code Alarms have that real powerful noise, not sure how to describe it. Can I change my alarm noise?
After, I realized I couldn't use the indicator, I did pay attention to the amount of time it stayed on and I never got past 7 or 8 seconds, (and that was at about 5 degrees). I programmed my remote starter for a 10 second delay and mine has never had an unsuccessful start either.
My unit also did a very good job of "syncing" itself to the tach signal. After the first two unsuccesful remote start attempts ( it cranked, but not long enough to start), I went through the "tach finder option" and it has never faltered since then.
All in all, I am quite happy with it. Cost me less than $100 and an afternoon under the dash.....

Yes. There is an optional add on for a bunch of different sounds. Check out your installation book or talk to an installer.
jsicora,
I looked for quite a while on mine and finally found it over the tranny hump... behind the stereo, although, you cant get to it from the stereo hole when removed... to help me, I took the garbage hook plate off and could see it from there... then just reached up and around the gas pedal.

Reason: mispell and adding more info
I have a Viper alarm/remote start with the little LED screen key fob. Can start it from nearly a mile away and the fob will chirp when the vehicle alarm is going off. Runs close to 500-600 installed depending on your dealer.
