Question alarm w/ remote start input needed

Well the truck got broken into again the other night, twice in less than 6 mo without stealing anything. 1st was through the door handle and now I am less one window. I am now in the market for a reliable and affordable alarm w/ remote start. I had an avital on my Z71 that never gave me a problem, unlike the truck. Best buy told me that they were discontinued though ?

anyone have a decent one that won't set me back too much?
I am getting a bit irritated with people just wanting to sit in my truck.

I put a Clifford alarm, with remote start on my 05 F350. I love it. You can even set a turbo cool down time. Just park, remove your keys, lock her up, and it will shut off 3 minutes later. (or what ever time you set it to)
Clifford is owned by the same company that owns Viper, which is Directed Electronics Inc. People say Viper is the best alarm out there, but the Clifford model RS3.5 w/remote start is doing a great job for me.
Clifford and Viper are around $600. installed. They both have many features that can be added for a few more $$$.

Thats the info Im looking for too, I called today and the guy knew nothing about the turbo cool down time. Can your alarm let you pull the keys and run back into the house to get something while its running? Thanks for the help.

Wow - Bummer !!!

Dang it - we need to get those "sitters" out of circulation !~!~!~!~!

Is it the area you stop it or ????? Maybe time to not go there any more
*******************************

A motion activated video camera is your best defense if it is repeat
offenders !!!
At least you will get them off the street... because all an alarm does is make noise AFTER the damage is done...

How many times have YOU ignored someones alarm because SO many of them go off without a break in ?
I know I ignore them regularly....

on second thought, considering the judicial system,
maybe a motion activated shotgun is a better deterent

I have a Code Alarm with mine that does have the remote start and also interior sensor. It also has the turbo timer and a 2 way remote. So if someone trips the alarm it doesnt just honk the horn your remote contol will also start making noise or vibrate and its an lcd remote, so it will show you also what was tripped. I like it and it does come with a lifetime warranty.

i also have a code alarm i bought it from circuit city for around 100 bucks for the 'master module' with remote start, keyless entry and alarm. I installed it myself so im not sure what installation runs (i think its around another 100 bucks.) but the master module can accept addons so you can expand the system and make it custom to your application. overall im pretty happy with it, and the price is good.

Hey Black88GT,
You can do all kinds of things with this clifford alarm. Yes you can pull your keys out to run back inside. If the brake pedal is depressed while in that mode, it shuts down the engine.
It has an audio sensor that picks up the sound of metal on glass, a battery back up, so if your battery cables are cut, the alarm is still activated. It has a hood lock. A field disturbance sensor, which is a radar around the truck. If this field is entered, it will page you on the remote before the alarm siren goes off. The remote tells you what feature has been activated.
It will roll up your power windows when you arm the system. and you can even set it to roll down your windows when you unlock the doors.
It has a sensor that protects the inside as well. If you put your arm inside of an open window, the sensor detects that as well. The remote can be set to page you by beeps or vibration.
And, if your truck is ever stolen, and not recovered, or totaled, DEI will pay you $2500 bucks.

When I had my Clifford put in, I had the installer put an LED on each door, inside right next to the lock plunger. This is easily visible from outside the vehicle and shows people that you didn't just spend $1.95 for a blinking LED - you've got an alarm. Clifford (and Viper with the acquisition by Directed) are great if you're concerned with someone taking off with the vehicle - they have remote, wireless modules controlled by the alarm brain that disable the fuel pump, etc. The "Responder" technology is pretty good too - a key fob that has an LCD display which shows the status of your vehicles, beeps if the alarm goes off and shows what sensor was triggered, confirms commands fromt eh remote, such as remote start, etc. Of course, a big-a$s pitbull sleeping in the cab works well too....

When you have your alarm installed be sure to ask for the horn honk to be hooked up as well as the siren. I had both on my '99 E350 and there were several times my alarm went off that I heard the horn but not the siren. It just draws more attention, which is the name of the game.

One other tip for alarms... Do everything in your power to keep the alarm from going off accidently. Be sure to calibrate all the sensors correctly. That way when the alarm does go off, your neighbors won't be used to hearing it. My old viper would allow me to turn off the shock sensor by hitting arm twice. That was great when my van was parked near machinery that shook the ground(tracked vehicles).

Also as I've heard several people on here recommend... Consider removing ALL valuables and leaving the truck unlocked? I did that with my '78 Sububran.

Oh yeah - that's a heck of an idea: leave it unlocked. Infact, skip the alarm too. Just connect an electric fence transformer to the body and wait for someone to grab a hold of one of those handles...

I got the Hornet 564t for $229 (retails for 400-500) from http://www.drdetailshop.com
. It has remote start and two way paging system. The reception on it is great, works from inside my building at work with the truck a couple hundred feet away. All the remote start systems can be wired to a diesel, you just have to tap into the "wait to start" wire.

Chuck641, how hard was the installation of that unit? Did you need to strip and solder wires or was it a "plug-in" installation?

Thanks.
