Got you all beat with my 20' cargo trailer coming in at 12,000. Truck is is an 05 with 6.0, airbags and an equalizer hitch which is heaven to pull with. You need to drive in Minnesota on "black ice" to appreciate the stability of these trucks with abig load. Unfortunately, if you have to stop fast and its slippery your toast!

I am pulling a 1997 Ranger 391xt Bass boat. Est. 3800 lbs. Excursion is a 2000 model with the 5.4 Triton and 3.73 Gears. Very happy with performance. Have been wondering if I need to add an aftermarket Transmission cooler. Mechanic said I had a good sized cooler on it now. But still concerned.

BFJARMAN: I have all the guages on my X, Going up a steep incline with my 9K trailer the trans temp on a warm day 80-90 degress will top out at 220 degrees. Your trailer should not be an issue if you keep off the throttle and keep the RPm at or below 2K going up hills.

I have a 200 Ex 5.4 with the heavy duty tow package and I haul a solid steel two horse trailer with dressing room. Horse weigh a thousand each and trailer is 3500. dressing room contents add about 400 as I keep hay, feed, water, gear etc in there.
ex usually has all seats filled with adults and kidlets and dogs.

I am now getting 12-16 towing 12 being up hill with no momentum and I get 17+ when I am not towing. I have 136,000 on it

I have no extra power boosters on it just stock. Its a repair from hell beast but for towing its doing great.

When you say the extra heavy duty tow package, didn't all the excursions have that? If not, how can I tell what options I have?

I pull a 23 Sea Ray Laguna with a 2001 Ex, 4x4, v-10, 4.30. I haven't weighed it, my guess is around 6500# with the trailer. I see between 9mpg and 10mpg depending on the hills. The rear had a lot of bounce in it, I put Rancho 9000's on in the fall and the bounce is gone (4 front 5 rear). The front brake rotors were replaced with Performance Plus slotted rotors. Stopping is great, the only thing I don't like is there is a little squealing from them during light braking. Nothing special on the hitch.

Had to comment on the swaying . With my 03 2WD 6.0 PSD I pull a 35' travel trailer that weighs in at about 10k loaded with dual bar sway control that works great ! Need some air bags to control the sag in back is my next purchase .
