I pull a 33 foot Travel trailer, 5-6 adults, 2 dogs. Trailer loaded is close to 9K. I get anywhere from 9.5 going to western PA on the Pike to 12.5 going to/from Lake George from western jersey (just off 78). Not bad for hauling all that an keeping up with the no tow traffic. With out the trailer I get around 16.
I pull a 2004 Prowler travel trailer loaded around 8K with a 2000 X. I get any where from 10.5 to 12.5 MPG traveling at 65 to 75 MPH. With out the trailer it's around 19 MPG on the open road.
I pull a Jayco 27' TT, 6500-7000lbs depending on load, 4 large teenagers (3 are mine and 1 of their friends) and 1 wife. I often fill up behind 3rd seat with firewood when camping. I use Reese Dual-Cam WD hitch and Prodigy BC. It towed thru the Adironack mountains beautifully this past summer at 10-11 mpg
I have a 7x16 enclosed trailer with 2 atv's I have a question, I dont get too much sway except when going by a tractor trailer, It doesnt sway too bad but it is noticable, is there anything I can do to help this or should I live with it. With the trailer I am getting around 9 with out I am getting 12 - 14
2001 X Diesel. I get about 13 mpg empty highway and city and 16 - 17 highway only (have gotten as good as 19.5). I have yet to tow my Toy Hauler with it, but my other truck got around 8, so I'm guessing this will do about the same.
I pull a 7000# travel trailer with 04 EB 6.0L. Get 10-11 usually at 65-70MPH. I have the Reese Dual Cam for weight distribution and sway control. No problems at all, hardly know it is back there.
For f_pumillo, how does your 33 foot trailer pull, what hitch setup do you have?
For Xcrazy, did you try pulling your 34 foot trailer using a hitch similar to mine, or have you always used the Hensley?
Reason I ask, I am looking at either a 30 ft or 33 ft trailer, both have max weight of 10K. Wondering how others with similar vehicle have done pulling these size trailers. Properly set up hitches make all the difference in how you tow, so a Hensley (while a good hitch) is still a band-aid solution if you are totally mismatched. This is probably what I am looking for, is the Excursion a match or mismatch for 30-33 foot trailers. I would probably be somewhere at 8500 - 9000 lbs when I pulled. Interested in any sway problems experienced (as of now, I don't experience sway). I already know these vehicles can pull a house down and I would be under max GCVW. Thanks.
I pull a 30ft TT with my 2001 V10 4x4 Ex. I have a regular weight distributing hitch w/a single sway bar. My trailer weighs ~9,000 full. I really don't have any issues pulling it, but if I were to say that I don't even know it's there, I would be lying. I do experiance some sway under certain conditions (like high winds, passing semi's). I reacently towed it from Michigan to Maine with no problems. The only upgrades I have added are a Banks Stinger kit which is composed of a cat-back exhaust and a air intake, and a set of Timbren rubber springs in the back. The Banks system is nice, but really is only noticable at 1/3 to 3/4 throttle. The Timbren rubber springs really do a good job in keeping the rear end level. After I installed them I had to re-do my hitch set up because the rear of the vehicle did not sag as much as before. If you are using a dual cam hitch I think you should be fine with up to a 32 ft trailer, but I would not go any bigger. The Excursion's problem isn't with its ablilty to tow the weight, it is with its short wheel base. The shorter the wheel base and the longer the trailer means more SWAY. Really long TT's <30ft really need long pick-up's to tow them (crew cabs). Go ahead and get the 30ft TT, but I wouldn't go any bigger. Make sure your hitch is set up right and you should be fine!!

I pull a 32' Travel Trailer with a 9400 lb GTW. Last time we went camping, I weighed truck with trailer behind it and everyone still in the truck--18,000 lb even. Pulls like a dream at 65 mph. We have a Hensley Arrow hitch for the trailer.
28 Ft Bumper Pull Camping Trailer...about 8000 Lbs Loaded. Pulled It This Past Week...first Time With The Psd Excursion. Wow, I See I Have Been Missing Out. It Is A Great Feeling To Pull Up A Grade And Actually Have Good Acceleration And Barely Be Into The Throttle. Why Did'nt I Buy This Thing Years Ago.
I pull a 12,000 lb. dump trailer that I use to deliver firewood. Most deliveries are within 20 miles and often in quite hilly terrain. I often have to use the 4x4 to get the truck and trailer out of the yard after dumping. And on rare occaisions we pull a Circle J two-by, rear load horse trailer, which tops out at about 5,000 lbs loaded.
For luckydr Thge hitch is stock Ford that came with the X and a Reese dual Cam sway kit. the trailer pulls like it's not there (as long as the road is flat). I feel it going up sleep inclines, but usually keep up with the flow of traffic. Also have a Prodigy brake control. Once set up it adjusts for how hard I am braking. Only time I need to adjust is when I'm backing into a slot or my driveway.
