Thumbs up v10 gets the job done

Just happy to see the v10 guys hangin out there. Those other forums try to make you think there is no such thing as a strong v10 puller, and they want you to reason with there twisted diesel thinking in cloud of smoke smoke. If you have a diesel you need a reminder list for everything to do, change this filter, check this valve,do this,do that, every so miles. Oh don't forget to wake up at 3:00am in the morning to plug in because the weather dropped a few degrees.(horrible). I'm running 85,000mi. 1 water pump, and oil changes every 7000mi. is the only thing motorwise since bought new in september 2002. My v10 is great............ ready for many more miles of work.

thanks.

I put a pen to it and i came up with around 288,000 miles to just break even on the diesel cost to purchase and maintain.V-10 is the way to go for most folks even recreational towing. It may be a different story if you hook a 6000 lb trailer to your rig and unhook it when you sell it but 90% of the folks that buy the diesel dont keep a trailer hooked up 24/7 or keep the truck that many miles.

One other consideration in the V10 or PSD discussion, that not many people talk about, is the weight differential between the two engines. That diesel puts alot more weight over that front end which results in more wear and tear on front end suspensions and tires. And that extra weight of the diesel components takes away from a truck's payload.

I'm sitting here looking at a Ford Motor Co. 2002 RV and Trailer Towing Guide and it's almost comical.

F250 4X2 Reg Cab with 5.4 V8 can haul a payload of 3,019 lbs.

F250 4X4 CC LB with diesel can haul a payload of 816 lbs. That's three fat guys in the bed.

And I believe I read some where that the V10 is only 70 lbs heavier than the 5.4 V8. Is that right?

2005 book.
f250 4x2 reg cab sb 2877 5.4
f250 4x2 reg cab sb 2952 6.8
f250 4x2 rg cab sb 2834 6.0
f250 4x4 cc sb 2137 5.4
f250 4x4 cc sb 2218 lbs 6.8
f250 4x4 cc sb 2109 lbs 6.0
every one i look at shows the 6.8 hauling more weight . how much more the engine weighs i do not know maybe 100 lbs, crank, rods , pistons, cams. block, heads. are that much longer. i'll keep looking as i have it some ware with the blue print specs of the motors.

Back to the subject of the V10 forum being down here all by itself. Just how exclusive do you think the V10 club is? It has been stated somewhere in these posts that for every three F250s and F350s that Ford sends out the door, two of them have the diesel in them. If this figure is correct, that leaves 33% of the 250s and 350s to be shared between the V10 and the V8. Anybody have any ideas about how many of these are V10s?

One other thing. Since I'm in the market for my first V10, I tend to look around parkings lots to see if I can spot them. And if I'm lucky to spot the driver, I usually ask them how they like their V10. Almost without exception, these people are enthusiastic about talking trucks with me and with the exception of one guy, they were all quite pleased with their trucks. Most of these people have been RV and boat haulers with a few commercial users.

this truck is just way to much. the boat broker who has my big boat asked why a v10 took him for a ride , he had a wet spot on his pants and a v10 owners bseg when we got back he simply said i understand now. and i did not even floor it he asked about mpg's towing told him got about 10 comeing down here.
this is a high performace motor with no doubts in my mind, then i'm only driving it for a week now.

This web site has the order guides for the last few years.

Check out the top sections and look at engine mixes of the guides where Ford has their recommended ordering mix for the dealers. The V10 is treated like a "Red headed step child" 7% sheesh... I bet we here at FTE account for all 7%!

i'll bet your correct as normal.
7% is not a lot and is the main reason in most cases we have to order them. after driving this monster for a week i would think ford would put some stronger marketing into the motor.

If you think about the $3800 typical premium paid for a PSD and only $510 typicaly for the V10 you will see the logic of thier marketing strategy.

Assume 3% profit margine

3% of $40,510 is less than 3%of $43,800
