She's at 95K+ miles and it's time to replace spark plugs. Any suggestions on these? Does the service schedule recommend replacing belts at this time? Anyone experience anything at this mileage that they want to pass on? Tires are coming due too, this sucker is really starting to cost some money.
You can't go wrong with stock plugs. I personally went with NGK Iridium IX plugs and put in some larger 9mm Ford Racing wires. I don't know if I gained anything, but it sure didn't hurt my performance or mileage (the mileage stunk to begin with). I do recommend if you are going to all of the trouble of replacing your plugs, replace the wires also.
As far as timing chains go, you should be good to go for quite a while. I know my 98 4.6L uses a chain rather than a belt and they last a long time. I have 91K on my Expy and I'm not worried about it.
The belts, plugs and ignitors(?) are all original. I've been using a K&N air filter and I know there is contraversy over that. I've used Mobile 1 since 6K miles and Motorcraft oil filters always.
I took all of the wind out of the sails of the anti-K&N people with purchasing a Dry-Charger Wrap for my K&N filter. If the racers in the Baja can use K&N filters, why the heck can't I?
Because their engine are typically rebuilt after each race?
I use an Airaid intake with a K&N type filter. I just did it for the sound when I punch it though. This truck will be history when a stretched one comes out anyway...
