Well the grand kids got chewing gum on the upholstery. Is there a way to get it out. Not sure when they did it. I thought of trying lighter fluid but don't want to do any more damage than has already been done. Any one know a product that will get the gum out with out staining or damaging any worse than it is. Grandpa is not a happy camper.
I have heard that if you ice it down with an ice cube it will get brittle enough that you can remove it from upholstery. I have never tried it myself, it's just something that I've kept in mind in case I ever needed it. Hope it helps!!
if you can get some of the ''old'' freon and spray the gum it will freeze it and you can flake the gum off. what this will do to the fabric i dont know, but i used this when i did gum removal from carpet when i cleaned businesses and it worked fine.good luck.
Krud cutter, It's about $2.50 a bottle at Wally World. Also, any orange oil based cleaner. I am currently in the process of retiling a space on my ship and am using the orange oil to remove the excess tile glue- very gummy stuff! The Krud Cutter is great for removing paint overspray, too.
ICe is the best route. Believe me after raising 4 step children and countless nephews and nieces. Just make certain that you freeze the gum really good and not rush it . Or else it will take some of the upholstery with it. Now when your fourteen year old step daughter takes bleach to clean the carpet up -- you can come back and tell about a happy camper...
Thanks for all the advise. Think I'm gonna start with the ice and go from there. Gonna get the vacumn and upholstry cleaner out there this week end and give her a good cleaning.

don't ever eat ice when you are chewing gum, it will turn rock hard!
Buy a can of compressed air that you clean the computer keyboards with. Only cost a couple bucks. Turn it upside down and spray the gum until it is brittle. Should not take more than 2 or 3 seconds of liquid spray. Then crumble it apart with your hands or put some gloves on. Trust me it works. I've save a lot of carpet patching by using this method to crumble the gum apart after freezing. It will leave not residue or discoloration.
Professional cleaning crews use a product that does the same thing for gum removal.
