Can Somebody Tell Me The Best Way To Clean/degrease My Engine Compartment .and If Anything I Should Remove And/or Cover While Doing This.i Want To Clean It Up Good And Install A Dress Up Kit(wires ,air Cleaner Etc....) Thanks Guys
My trucks engine was in sad shape when i bought it. I got the presure washer and sprayed all the excess dirt and grease off. (Be sure to cover the carb). Then i used some sort of foaming engine cleaner/degreaser theat i got from the auto parts store. After everything was clean i painted the A/C compressor, water pump, radiator, pulleys, inner fenders, and just about everything else i could paint. Before and after:
Just cleaned the engine compartment of my 95' EB Bronco and my wifes 98' F150. Used aerosol engine degreaser on a warm block. Let sit for about ten min. Started the truck and sprayed off with garden hose while running. Looked o.k. after drying. Now really set it off: Went to the local auto supply house and got a couple of cans of some stuff called CD2. Spray that all over everything and wow! Works kindof like Armorall but dries out completely and repells dust. Both units look as close to new as can be without taking a bunch of parts loose.
I use spray degreaser from the parts house. Warm motor, let set 10 min, then pressure wash. After that I have a squirt bottle with water and Dawn dishsoap I spray on it every 2 weeks or so and use my pressure washer hooked to the hot water heater and hose off with the motor warm. Any new oil/grease/grime washes away and your left with a clean engine compt.
I found the process to be multi stage, but the engine and compartment on my '75 were filthy. I washed the engine and area at the car wash first (didn't have a pressure washer then), next step was to scrape the heavy stuff off and spray it with degreaser. I also used Varsol on some of the heavier areas. Washed again and had to repeat the scraping and spraying stage, especially on the front crossmember and front suspension. I've done it about 3 times now and it's just about spotless, be nice to paint it now.
